“The marriage” By Farooq Sarwar
The marriage ceremony is in highest swing in neighbor’s house. Though it is darkness but it seems like a shining day due to striking light in the marriage and one can hear the loud songs of dancing beautiful young girls having hand drums in their hands and beat them in artistic manners. He is alone in his home and has the desire to see the beautiful scene in the next home to enjoy it, but he is prevented due to his society values ‘ because now he is a young and grown man and cannot see the open face of strange women. Suddenly he observes a cat sit on the roof in good mood and enjoying the joyousness. He takes a sigh that how lucky she is ‘ if I was in her place, l would be lucky. He also listens the song of the cuckoo ‘ who is hidden in a tall tree. He thinks that the bird is happy due to the loveliness, long hairs, makeup, colorful dresses, music and the charming voices of girls. So he becomes resentful of the cuckoo too. The children of neighborhood also emerge on the roof ‘ who begin to dance to see the scene of marriage with laughing faces. Now he feels also jealousy with the children. The wall between the two houses is very tall; therefore there is no chance of peeping, so the feeling of hatred towards the wall emerges in his heart as well. All of a sudden the wind blows with its powers in the sense that he is appreciating the enchanting songs of youthful beauties and wants to spread it in the surroundings with the sense that the other folk also enjoy this superb and artistic voice. Now he considers the wind is equally his rival. Finally he feels hatred towards his youth with the opinion that his child wood was better because those days he was free like a cat, cuckoo, neighborhood children and wind. He becomes angry and reactionary that his society is very backward and narrow minded and one cannot see the open face of a woman and this restriction is unnatural. Really it is just like a cruelty, nastiness, bad and so-called convention of the third world countries. An honest and open minded man cannot like this rigidity. However, all of a sudden young man astonishes the cat, cuckoo, wind and children because he throws a stone with power towards another tall tree, where a teenage boy is hidden and enjoys the scene of dancing girls with smiling face. Now the glad face of a teenage boy has converted into an injured face with the redness of oozing blood. The unlucky boy is not aware of the fact that the sisters of the young man are equally participating in the marriage ceremony.
